Humanoid robots do not automatically make extinction more likely

Humanoid robots deserve attention because they make AI physical and psychologically familiar.

A model in a data center affects the world through information and connected tools. Put a capable system into a mobile body and it gains sensors, movement, manipulation, and direct physical interaction. That changes the safety envelope.

But a humanoid shape should not be confused with superintelligence.

A warehouse robot can be physically strong but cognitively narrow. A social robot can look expressive while following limited policies. A highly capable software agent may have no body at all. The risk depends on the combination of intelligence, permissions, hardware, environment, cybersecurity, and oversight—not on whether the machine has a face.

Human-like appearance creates its own problem: overtrust. People may disclose more, comply more readily, or assume deeper understanding when a machine speaks naturally and maintains eye contact. Social design can therefore become a safety issue even before physical autonomy reaches extraordinary levels.
